During Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month in November
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (October 20, 2017) – Seminole Casino Coconut Creek has announced it will support the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network® during Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month in November.
Founded in 1999, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network® is dedicated to fighting the world’s toughest cancer. Its urgent mission is to save lives and attack pancreatic cancer on all fronts: research, clinical initiatives, patient services and advocacy. The organization’s effort is amplified by a nationwide network of grassroots support. It is determined to improve patient outcomes today and to double survival by 2020.
Through its “Coco For A Cure” program, Seminole Casino Coconut Creek will help raise awareness and funds for the fight against pancreatic cancer via different initiatives such as the sale of logoed items, food & beverage programs and purple-themed décor throughout the property.
On Thursday, November 16 (World Pancreatic Cancer Day), the casino will hold an Art & Fashion Celebration from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Legends Lounge. Hosted by Captain Lee Rosbach from Bravo TV’s Below Deck, attendees can enjoy an evening of fine art from Blackburn Galleries, fashion by Bloomingdales®, NYY Steak signature bites, live entertainment, giveaways and more. The painting, which was created by Blackburn Galleries founder Angela Blackburn, is being donated from the Simon Says private collection, Chairman of Capricorn Holdings Investment Trust. The chosen work of art to be donated is valued around $12,000. Says and Blackburn will be attending the event to present the work of art in person.
Blackburn Galleries, which does art for charity on a regular basis, is based in Boca Raton, Fla. and London. It works with artists internationally to promote and market their contemporary works of Original Fine arts at exhibitions worldwide and works with art buyers, art collectors and art investors worldwide assisting them with building and managing their art collections and portfolios.
Additionally, throughout November, Seminole Casino Coconut Creek team members will be wearing purple Pancreatic Cancer Awareness wristbands, ribbons and pins.
“The American Cancer Society estimates that 53,670 people will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2017 and more than 43,000 will die, so this a very serious problem,” said Jonathan Marcus, Vice President of Marketing at Seminole Casino Coconut Creek. “We clearly want to be a part of the solution by helping to raise awareness of this this terrible disease.”
Beyond its on-site efforts, Seminole Casino Coconut Creek team members will also participate in the PURPLESTRIDE® Broward-Palm Beach 2017 Walk (PurpleStride) on Sunday, November 19, presented by the Memorial Cancer Institute.
Since the first walk in 2008, PurpleStride has been the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network’s most powerful vehicle for fundraising and awareness. Each year, in more than 50 PurpleStride events across the country, survivors, families, researchers, caregivers and others touched by pancreatic cancer come together to rewrite the future of the disease.
Over the last eight years, the walk has raised more than $87 million for pancreatic cancer research and patient services through community events.
“Since 2008, there has been a three percent increase in pancreatic cancer survival and PurpleStride has inspired more than one million people across the country to take action in the fight against pancreatic cancer,” added Marcus. “Collectively, we can continue making a positive impact for patients battling this devastating disease.”
