New Chefs Join Seminole Casino Coconut Creek

Former 'Chopped' Champion Overseeing NYY Steak Team

COCONUT CREEK, Fla. (June 8, 2016) – Chef Matthew Zappoli and Chef Carlos Claudio recently joined the culinary team at Seminole Casino Coconut Creek.

Zappoli is the new Chef at NYY Steak, the property’s fine dining restaurant. He’s a past champion of the Food Network’s show Chopped.

Prior to his arrival at Seminole Casino Coconut Creek, Zappoli worked at the popular Charlie Palmer Steak restaurant in New York City.

A graduate of the prestigious Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, N.Y., Zappoli has worked at such restaurants as Aureole (in New York City and Las Vegas) and the four-star rated Raven & The Peach in his home state of New Jersey. He also owned and operated the successful Tre Amici restaurant in Long Branch, N.J.

“I’m very happy to be at Seminole Casino Coconut Creek,” said Zappoli. “What I’m most excited about is the creative freedom that I will have here.”

Claudio is the new Pastry Chef for the entire property which includes five restaurants – NYY Steak, Sorrisi, 1st Street Deli, Fresh Harvest and Sunset Grill.

Before landing at Seminole Casino Coconut Creek, Claudio was the Pastry Chef for two years at an upscale senior living community in Naples, Fla. – Vi at Bentley Village.

A 2004 graduate of the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, Claudio has made employment stops at a number of South Florida establishments including Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood.

“Coming to Seminole Casino Coconut Creek was just a terrific move for me,” said Claudio, a Puerto Rico native. “There’s a tremendous opportunity to be creative here and as a pastry chef that’s what you desire. My goal is to bring the pastry department to another level.”

In addition to Zappoli and Claudio joining the staff at Seminole Casino Coconut Creek, Stephen Collins was recently named Chef at Sorrisi, the property’s Italian restaurant. He moved over from Fresh Harvest.
